96 Syrian refugees arrive in Italy thanks to Humanitarian Corridors

This September 26, on a flight from Beirut, 48 Syrian refugees landed at Fiumicino airport, including 18 minors, who had been living in refugee camps in the Akkar region in northern Lebanon, in the Bekaa valley or in precarious accommodation on the outskirts of Beirut. This first group was joined on September 28, by 48 other refugees, including 21 minors, also Syrian nationals, making a total of 96 people.
Their entry into Italy is possible thanks to the Humanitarian Corridors promoted by the Community of Sant’Egidio, the Federation of Evangelical Churches of Italy and the Waldensian Table, in agreement with the Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs, which since February 2016 have brought more than 2650 people from Lebanon to safety in Italy. A total of 6500 refugees have arrived in Europe with the Humanitarian Corridors.
The families will be hosted in 11 Italian regions (Lazio, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria, Molise, Piedmont, Puglia, Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany and Veneto) thanks to their relatives, previously arrived with the Humanitarian Corridors and well integrated in our country. They will also be accommodated in houses put at their disposal by Italian families and associations. The latter will accompany them on the road to integration, through learning the Italian language and, once they have obtained refugee status, integration into the world of work.
